With the season changing from green leafs to the colors of fall, many people’s minds start to dream of the hunting season, a candy spree, and big meals. However, you probably aren’t aware that while you are daydreaming of those wonderful times, you may have unwanted guests start to move in.
Bugs of all sorts start to find a cozy place to be while the weather outside gets colder. One of the more dangerous residents you could find is the black widow spider. These spiders are notorious for their markings on their belly or abdomen. They are (as the name suggests) black and have a reputation for their venom. Rightly so, as this poison can be fatal to children, the elderly or small pets. Luckily, deaths are very rare. The black widow is actually non-aggressive and bites only in self-defense.
Black Widows are not usually found up high in trees or other such places, but prefer corners, window wells and even the bottom of your garage tracks. We’ve seen up to three black widows in the same window well! You usually can find them upon their webs looking to trap their prey. Female black widows will also hang a cocoon with hundreds of eggs. The spider-lings that hatch from these leave the “nest” soon after they have been born. The one thing that does remain is the web.
Don’t let your home be invaded by these fearsome spiders, call Big Tom’s Pest Control and schedule an appointment. We take care of black widows and all the other pests so you can rest easy. Oh… and eat a slice of pie for us, we won’t tell anyone.
